Types of Water Tanks
Tanks come in many shapes and sizes, they are also manufactured in a variety of materials.
Poly tanks, made in Australia use food grade Polyethylene and are UV stabilised, meaning no taste or odour transferring to the water. The tanks are relatively light and easy to maneuver. They come in a large range of colours, capacities & dimensions. Poly tanks are durable, they don’t rust, and they have an expected life of 50 plus years. There are many hundreds of water tank manufacturers across Australia, many just feeding their local markets. All tanks are not created equally, the difference between manufactures is the thickness and quality of the polyethylene materials used.
Metal tanks are made from Colorbond® Aquaplate® corrugated rolled metal, a polymer skin is bonded to the steel on the inside and underside of the tanks. These tanks come in three standard colours Galvanised, Paperbark & Pale eucalypt, and also can be ordered in a range of painted finishes. These tanks need to be handled carefully as to not damage the finish & protective coating on the tank. These tanks have a 20 year corrosion warranty.
Concrete tanks are manufactured using steel reinforced concrete, these tanks are normally manufactured off site and are delivered using a crane truck. This in some cases may cause issues with delivery, as access for truck etc must be allowed.
Poly Lined steel tanks are designed for large capacity storage; these tanks are assembled on site. They are constructed of Galvanised Z450 material with a COLORBOND® steel finish. The GeoFlex ™ liner is highly flexible form of the same base material found in today’s car bumpers. A large flat area must be prepared before installation.
