Commercial Wastewater System Projects for Lord Howe Island
Civcon Water Services were contacted in early 2015, by the Lord Howe Island Board, with the view to supply the Island with Fuji Clean Wastewater treatment systems. The Lord Howe Island Board had an onsite wastewater management strategy developed, so that existing old style septic systems could be recognised and prioritised, where failing or undersized septic systems could be upgraded to the latest technology wastewater treatment systems.
In mid-2015 Mick Adams, Director & Karl Akin, General Manager, of Civcon Water Services flew to the Island to hold meetings with the board, and to have public information sessions, these information sessions also included other products that we are able to supply the Island, including Pumps, Filtration, Water tanks, including the construct on site Pioneer large capacity tanks. Since the initial visit we have been back to the island, on a number of occasions to carry out assessments & quotes, on major upgrades to some of the resorts, and public facilities on the island. It is Civcon’s strong business ethics and commitment to the environment that has contributed to us being chosen as a preferred supplier of the Fuji Clean Wastewater treatment systems to Lord Howe Island.
With a strong commitment to make sure that Lord Howe Island is and remains a pristine UNESO World Heritage listed site. Civcon Water Services, believe that we as a company, should be onsite where possible to oversee all major upgrades, and to assist and train local trades to install, commission, and maintain the Islands wastewater treatment systems, which will include other brands of system that were not supplied by Civcon Water Services. We as a company are continually looking at innovative new products that may be able to be introduced to the Island to improve water quality and also energy efficiency of pumping systems. We have supplied the Board with recommended products guide & Do’s and Don’ts to using a Wastewater treatment system, so the continued high quality treatment of the Fuji Clean system is maintained.
Commercial Wastewater Treatment System for Blue Lagoon Lodge
Blue Lagoon Lodge, engaged Civcon in 2016, to supply and install a Fuji Clean PCN10 Commercial wastewater treatment system, capable of treating up to 10,000 litres per day. Due to the layout of Blue Lagoon, it was not possible to gain gravity fall from all accommodation facilities, so the need to install 2 pump stations was required to transfer untreated waste from these facilities to the Fuji system. Using positive displacement submersible grinder pumps, with low flow rates was the chosen pump, to suit the inflow requirements of the Fuji PCN10. After treatment the Wastewater will be distributed via 5000 lineal metres of Netafim AS XR Uni Bioline split into 12 equal size zones, located in the significant vegetation forest within the boundary confines of Blue Lagoon Lodge.
Installation of the Fuji Clean PCN10 treatment plant, began in mid-July 2017, with completion expected by mid-August, just before the lodge starts back up after the winter break in September. Civcon Water Services was onsite to oversee the installation, with Mick Adams & Reece Wood (Civcon plumber) and finish the interconnection of the project, test and commission the new system & decommission the old septic system, ready for operation. A large amount of the work was carried out by the Islands Plumber, Peter Heck who organised the local side of the operation, including Survey of property, Excavation, Electrical and other locals to assist with the installation of the irrigation system.
A little About Blue Lagoon Lodge
Blue Lagoon Lodge, the tradition of friendly, island style hospitality established by Nathan Thompson, a founding father of the Lord Howe settlement, is continued today by his descendants, Barry, Des, and Rodney and their wives and families.
Blue Lagoon is centrally located just 200 metres from the lagoon amidst 2 hectares of subtropical rainforest. A general store is located on the property, with a bakery, restaurant, Post Office & other facilities nearby. It is just a few minutes’ walk, on level ground from the Lagoon and Ned’s Beach. Shady verandahs overlook lush green sub-tropical gardens, the ideal spot for cooking on the undercover gas barbecues located throughout, or simply reading and reviving.
Lodge Facilities At Blue Lagoon Lodge all rooms offer the comforts that make a holiday special, such as queen sized beds, TV/DVD, radio, ceiling fans, hairdryer and en suite. All rooms contain a kitchenette which includes a fridge, microwave oven, electric frypan, tea and coffee facilities, cookware and all utensils including cutlery, toaster, kettle, and crockery.
Linen, bath towels and beach towels are all provided. A guest laundry is also onsite. Serviced rooms are available on request (additional tariff). For the more energetic, Blue Lagoon Lodge has bike hire available to assist your viewing of the Island. The lodge also has an all-weather tennis court for our guests, as well as billiards and table tennis in our spacious games room. For the not so active, car hire is also available.
Waste Management Facility
A Fuji Clean CE4200 Commercial Wastewater treatment system, with additional commercial UV disinfection, capable of treating up to 4200 litres per day, was chosen and installed in early 2017. Installation was carried out by Island Plumber Peter (Animal) Heck and board staff, with Civcon providing the site plans and detailed irrigation layout. A pump well was installed next to the Fuji system which distributes the treated wastewater, via 3000 lineal metres of Netafim AS XR Uni Bioline split into 6 equal zones.
Board, School, Bowling Club & Government House
This project has been in the wings for quite a while, with expected start of installation being the September 2017 school holidays. A Fuji Clean CE6000 Wastewater treatment system has been chosen as the perfect fit for this complex project. With the Board, School, Bowling Club & Government House all located within a small confine, next to each other. As it is impossible to gain fall from all locations, a series of pump stations will be installed, to transfer untreated waste from each facility to the Fuji CE6000, which will be located adjacent to Lagoon Road & next to the Bowling Club entry. A pump well will be installed next to the Fuji system to distribute the treated wastewater to the irrigation disposal field which has been located on land between Lagoon Rd and the Lagoon, an area of 1650 metres squared is required with 2050 lineal metres of Netafim AS XR Uni Bioline split into 4 equal zones. Civcon staff will be onsite during the installation process, to oversee the installation, and assist with the set up and commissioning of the plant.
A number of domestic Fuji Clean CE15000EX systems have been supplied and installed by the local Plumber Peter Heck.
